Is the Drought Affecting Wildflowers?
According to experts from the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, a mixed season for wildflower blooms was predicted due to the ongoing drought in Central Texas. If you’ve driven the highways in Burnet County lately, you’ve probably noticed that bluebonnets and paintbrushes are much more sparse. Thankfully, native plants are well adapted to the region, and even though we may not see as many blooms this year, that doesn’t mean we won’t see them in greater numbers next year. More rain is needed, not only to help the wildflowers, but to recharge the aquifers in the area. |
