Central Texas Groundwater District Public Hearing, December 20, 2022

Reported in the November 29, 2022, Highlander, the Central Texas Groundwater District is planning a Public Hearing at 9am, on December 20, 2022, to possibly discuss implementing mandatory water restrictions.  The District has asked for public input regarding implementation of mandatory water restrictions.  Any decision by the District Board which favors mandatory restrictions must be made before January 1st.

Effective June 13, 2022, the Board of Directors of the Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District determined the district to be at “Critical Drought Stage” and initiated the Stage 4 Critical Drought Stage of the District Drought Management Plan.  The City has regularly posted information regarding the drought in the monthly newsletter, on the City bulletin board and message sign, as well as discussions regarding the drought conditions at Board of Alderman meetings.

The City of Highland Haven water wells are permitted through the Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District and therefore required to follow the District rules.  So far, the District has initiated a 30% voluntary reduction in water use; however, due to the continued drought conditions the District is now considering mandatory restrictions of water use.
